STL model to dicom
STL model to dicom
We are trying to test a process of making a prosethesis by 3D printing.
I have the finished part and a scan in STL format.
I want to convert this as a DICOM series to compare with the original
series the part was made from
When I select create a dicom series, enter all the parameters and click
apply it does nothing
The only fault I can see is that the "input volume" control says "select a
volume" but when I click it, I only have the option of delete or rename.
Can I even export an STL model as a DICOM series?

Re: STL model to dicom
I assume you are trying to find the differences between the prototype and the original scan. If that’s the case why don’t you convert the original scan to STL and use those to compare them? You will need to register and then calculate mesh deviations.
I don’t know about Slicer, but I believe meshlab would do that.

When you load an STL file in slicer it is a surface model, but the dicom exporter needs a volume as input. Converting a model into a volume is unfortunately a lossy operation, so the results may not match exactly.
This module may do what you need:
Sounds like a very interesting project - hope it works well.
